Paragould, Arkansas – A significant shift in the healthcare landscape of eastern Arkansas has taken place with the finalization of a merger between Memphis-based Baptist Memorial Health Care and Arkansas Methodist Medical Center (AMMC). The merger transfers all assets of AMMC to Baptist Memorial Health Care, encompassing the 129-bed hospital itself, the 91-bed Chateau on the Ridge Assisted Living facility and eight affiliated medical clinics. According to a news release, the move is intended to strengthen Baptist Memorial’s commitment to providing “exceptional and affordable health care” to the community. Baptist Memorial now operates three hospitals within the state of Arkansas, located in Craighead, Crittenden, and Greene counties, solidifying its presence in the region.
Leading the Paragould hospital as its new CEO and administrator is Melanie Edens, formerly the chief operating officer of NEA Baptist. She assumes the role following the retirement of Brad Bloemer, who had served as the hospital’s leader since July 2023. Jason Little, president and CEO of Baptist Memorial Health Care, emphasized the positive impact of the merger, stating, “Completing the merger between Baptist Memorial Health Care and Arkansas Methodist Medical Center opens a new chapter for sustained access to comprehensive health care in East Arkansas and the South.”
