Steam Machine Delayed to 2026: Valve Addresses RAM Shortages & Launch Date

Valve has reaffirmed its commitment to launching the Steam Machine, Steam Frame and a new Steam Controller in 2026, despite ongoing challenges with memory and storage shortages. The confirmation came after a revised blog post on Steam’s website clarified the company’s intentions, following initial wording that suggested potential delays into 2027.

The initial uncertainty stemmed from an earlier version of the “Steam Year In Review 2025” blog post, which stated Valve “hoped to ship” the hardware this year. This phrasing was subsequently altered to a more definitive “we will be shipping all three products this year,” according to reports from IGN and PC Gamer. The change followed concerns raised by the gaming community after the initial wording was spotted by Insider Gaming.

Valve initially announced the three products late last year, targeting a release in the first quarter of 2026. However, in February, the company signaled potential delays due to rising prices of PC hardware components, specifically linked to shortages impacting artificial intelligence development. These shortages made it hard for Valve to finalize pricing and a firm release date for both the Steam Machine and Steam Frame, as reported by IGN.

The Steam Machine is slated to include 16 GB of DDR5 system RAM and 8 GB of GDDR6 RAM, alongside a customized AMD RDNA 3 GPU, according to GameRant. Whereas Valve has not yet provided a specific release window within 2026, the company stated it will share further updates as plans are finalized.

Despite the reaffirmed commitment, Valve acknowledged the continuing difficulties with securing sufficient memory and storage. The company’s blog post noted these challenges, but did not offer a timeline for resolution or indicate any impact on the planned 2026 launch. As of March 7, 2026, Valve has not provided further details regarding the specific challenges or potential mitigation strategies.
