Netflix is doubling down on the success of its animated musical urban fantasy, KPop Demon Hunters, officially greenlighting a sequel and securing the creative team for a multi-year deal. The announcement comes less than a year after the film debuted on the streaming platform, quickly becoming its most-watched original title with over 500 million views, according to Netflix data.
The sequel will once again be directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the duo behind the original film’s critical and commercial success. This partnership extends beyond the sequel, as Kang and Appelhans have signed an exclusive multi-year writing and directing deal with Netflix for animation projects, signaling the streamer’s commitment to expanding its animated offerings.
KPop Demon Hunters, released on June 20, 2025, follows Huntrix, a K-pop girl group who secretly protect their fans from supernatural threats, battling rival boy band the Saja Boys, who are revealed to be demons in disguise.
