AEW’s Hurt Syndicate: MVP on Potential New Members & MJF’s Failed Attempt

The Hurt Syndicate, a dominant force in All Elite Wrestling, may be poised for growth. Leader Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) recently indicated the stable is actively considering adding a new member, focusing on young AEW talent who possess the necessary attributes to fit their established dynamic. The discussion came during an appearance on the “Battleground” podcast, where MVP highlighted potential recruits and reflected on past attempts to expand the group.

Although the Syndicate has remained relatively quiet on AEW programming recently, MVP emphasized that scouting continues. He specifically named “Jet” Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher as wrestlers who have caught his eye, praising their skill sets and potential for future success. The current AEW World Trios Champions, Knight, “Speedball” Mike Bailey, and Mistico, recently secured the titles at AEW Revolution, defeating Fletcher and his Don Callis Family.

Evaluating Potential Recruits

According to MVP, both Knight and Fletcher possess the foundational skills needed to thrive within the Hurt Syndicate. “Both of those guys have the prerequisite skill set and ability to be in the Hurt Syndicate,” he stated. He also noted their presentation and willingness to engage in aggressive competition as key factors. However, he acknowledged that both wrestlers would require “grooming and a little educating” to fully understand the business side of professional wrestling and maintain a professional demeanor.

The Hurt Syndicate previously attempted to expand its ranks within AEW, with MJF as a potential addition. However, that effort proved unsuccessful. MVP was critical of MJF’s performance and character, stating he “didn’t build the cut” and lacked the “drive” and “internal capability for true violence.” This experience, he admitted, made the Syndicate hesitant to immediately pursue another new member.

Dismissing MJF’s Violence as Performance

The conversation also touched upon AEW World Champion MJF’s recent display of aggression during his Texas Deathmatch against “Hangman” Adam Page at Revolution. MVP was dismissive of MJF’s tactics, asserting that true dominance comes from physical prowess rather than relying on weapons. “I could do more damage with these than MJF could do with a syringe,” MVP said, holding up his fists. He pointed to veterans like Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin as examples of wrestlers who can inflict impactful damage through their physical abilities alone.

MVP continued, “Beat somebody up, I dare you. Beat somebody up! Gain that same kind of reaction inflicting extreme violence on someone without weapons.” He emphasized the importance of imposing one’s will on an opponent through skill and strength, rather than resorting to outside assistance.

The Hurt Syndicate’s history includes a previous fourth member, Cedric Alexander, who competed with the group during their time in WWE. Alexander recently explained his decision not to rejoin the Syndicate in AEW, though details of his reasoning were not discussed in the podcast appearance.

What’s Next for The Hurt Syndicate?

Despite the setbacks with MJF, MVP indicated that the Hurt Syndicate remains open to adding a new member, recognizing the need for “youthfulness” and a “youthful spark” within the group. Discussions are ongoing, and the stable is carefully evaluating potential candidates who can contribute to their continued success in AEW. The focus remains on finding a wrestler who embodies the Syndicate’s core values of dominance, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the sport.

As AEW continues to evolve, the potential expansion of The Hurt Syndicate adds another layer of intrigue to the landscape. Fans will be watching closely to see which young talent catches MVP’s eye and whether the Syndicate can successfully integrate a new member into their already formidable ranks.
