“When I saw these letters, I completely panicked. I almost fell over and cried” the student said at the press conference announcing the find. In total, he managed to identify 16 drop caps, including 9 shapes a clear word. He thus became the first human being, in 2000 years, to be able to read a word on one of the last remaining original Roman texts. The word discovered, “porphyras”, means “purple”.

A few hours later, without knowing what Luke Farritor was accomplishing, another young man, Youssef Nader, managed to identify exactly the same passage, even more clearly. He also leaves with a prize, as the second winner.
