A 3-year-old girl is evacuated by boat from Santa María Island after falling amid criticism of the Navy | National

A 3-year-old girl who suffered an accident was evacuated from Santa María Island in a private boat, after the Navy boat did not arrive to transfer the little patient.

In a fishing boat a three-year-old girl had to be evacuated from the Santa Maria Island during the night of this Monday, heading to a health center, after falling from a horse.

This is how the islanders themselves denounced it, as Marcela Riquelme, who through social networks broadcast live the departure of the boat heading to Llico.

The fact provoked new criticism of the Navy, because -according to what they accused- they did not arrive in their patrol boat to transfer the little girl, due to the weather conditions.

This was confirmed by the president of the Puerto Norte Neighborhood Association, Aurora Chamorro, who detailed that the fact was alerted at around 7:00 p.m.

However, around 9:00 p.m., the Navy would have reacted by sending a boat, which later returned due to bad weather.

For these cases, there is an evacuation agreement between the Health Service and the Second Naval Zone, which is applied when there are no other means available and is carried out when the weather conditions are safe both for the victim and for the safety of the means used. which in this case would not have happened.

Given what happened, according to the story of the neighborhood leader, the institution would have arranged a helicopter. However, the parents of the minor finally decided to take the girl directly to Arauco.

In this way, given the existence of its own means, the Navy ended up canceling the request.

“The lives of the islanders are at risk,” lamented the neighborhood leader, who announced that she will hold meetings with authorities on the continent to find solutions.

On several occasions, in medical emergencies, relatives must transport patients by boat and in precarious conditions.

In fact, last June, a 16-year-old teenager died after not receiving timely medical attention due to connectivity problems.
