A 4-year-old boy is fighting for his life in an Antwerp hospital after falling into the water at ‘De Nekker’ leisure park in Mechelen on Tuesday afternoon. The child was resuscitated at the scene and taken to hospital in critical condition.
According to information from the “Gazet Van Antwerp”, the little boy was with his class and playing games in the park, when he escaped the vigilance of his supervisors. He reportedly ran to a pond on the estate. School staff quickly realized he was missing and sounded the alarm. A search operation was then launched and the child was found in the water.
Help for victims
The parents of the little victim were taken care of by the police victim support service and also taken to the hospital. The child’s friends were also taken care of. We do not currently know the circumstances of the tragedy, which will have to be revealed by the police investigation.
The leisure park did not wish to comment on the case, which was already faced with a tragedy in 2020, when a 6-year-old child drowned in the pond on site.
