MAZ is currently in a rather difficult position, as sales of its products have fallen due to sanctions, as well as due to a decrease in demand in the Russian market, on which it is highly dependent. In addition, the end of last year showed that domestic companies increasingly began to purchase Chinese-made commercial vehicles. This may also have a negative impact on the position of the Belarusian company.
To avoid bankruptcy, MAZ can follow the path of KamAZ and start producing cars. Moreover, the Belarusian company had experience of cooperation with JAC in the past, with which it produced minibuses. The domestic designer announced the publication of several renders that show how MAZ can get out of this situation. The developer presented preliminary images of the new MAZ-5440 Busel 2023-2024 crossover, the production of which may be launched in Belarus using JAC components and design solutions.
At the same time, it is not yet known exactly in what form this model will be presented. The reason is that “Moskvich 3” after entering the market was less popular than its prototype JAC JS4. In this regard, it is possible that during the development of the Busel MAZ, its appearance will be changed in order to distinguish the Belarusian novelty from the Chinese prototype.
It is also not yet known which car could form the basis of such a model. JAC has several promising crossovers (including the Sehol brand), each of which is able to become in demand on the Russian and Belarusian markets. But the problem lies in the low confidence in the Chinese company on the part of domestic consumers. Therefore, it is likely that MAZ, in addition to changing the appearance, will work to reduce the price of its new product.
