Al-Marsad daily reported on comments from infectious disease specialist, Dr. Hayel Al-Abdali, regarding the ongoing surge in coronavirus cases. The expectation is for a continued rise in infections over the following fortnight.
In an interview with Al-Ekhbariya television, Dr. Al-Abdali characterized the Kingdom’s increase in COVID-19 instances as typical, mirroring the global trend fueled by the Omicron variant.
He clarified that while Omicron spreads rapidly, its impact is considerably milder than its predecessors, noting that viral outbreaks often conclude with a highly transmissible but less severe strain.
He identified several factors contributing to the current rise in infections: Omicron’s contagiousness, lax adherence to safety measures and health protocols, and a decline in social distancing and mask usage.
