A few hours have passed since the attack with a knife at the ouzo shop where the 65-year-old man was recovering and describes to LIVE NEWS for the first time what he experienced.
When one of the customers got up from his table and after, as he says, started cursing him, he attacked and stabbed him.
The cause of the attack that sent him to surgery was a portion of shorts. At some point, the perpetrator got up from his seat in a rage and started asking the cook for an explanation. In the next few seconds scenes of panic unfolded.
“A customer comes in, he was blind, he had drunk too much. He tells me “I want a kefalotiri, a potato and a pork chop.” As I take these and serve them, he says to me, “Is the kontosouvli today’s?” Because I don’t see it”. I insist “it’s fresh” because I don’t serve things like that, with the garnish and everything. I already lay them out, serve them, we say ”bon appetit” to him. Then he starts cursing my mother. ”Do not lie to me””.
The unlucky cook could not escape the assailant. No one at that moment stepped in the middle to help him.
“He tells me “they had an old one, it’s not today’s”. “Dude I don’t serve yesterday’s” I said. He gives me the plate, I cancel this, he eats potatoes, he also eats the kefalotiri, and I say “look, you can’t curse my mother, let these things stop a little because I am 65 years old and you are 53 with 55, to respect. This is a shop and I don’t want you to insult me because others can hear you too.”
At first, he says, the otherwise normal customer attacked him with a fork. But immediately after that he took the knife and stuck it in his stomach.
“He gets up, takes the fork and stands up to stick the fork at me. The lady who owns the shop takes his hand. With the other hand, the right, he grabs the knife and hits the abdomen, right.”
The perpetrator escaped
There is a disturbance at the ouzorie in the Menemeni area, with the officials calling an ambulance. In the general confusion, the perpetrator managed to escape.
The 65-year-old cook is taken to a hospital covered in blood and the doctors take him to the operating room.
“I thought he hit me with the fork, I didn’t get it, I go out, to tell him this and I lift my uniform and I see blood leaving and you say “how is it? Does the fork have such pieces?” I go to the table and we see blood on the knife, he stabbed one, I sat for 2-3 minutes, he turned, I left the door, he got on the motorbike and left.”
The attack has shocked both the relatives and friends of the 65-year-old cook, as well as the eyewitnesses, who almost faced murder.
“I was afraid that I had hit somewhere else, it has damaged me.”
The perpetrator left the ouzorie without paying. Information states that he has been identified, but the police have still not been able to locate him.
“The police also came and asked for the tape.”
As the ouzeri officials said, the unfortunate cook was a role model in his work and never in the past had anyone been found to say anything against him.
The only consolation is that the cook’s state of health does not inspire concern among the doctors, after the completion of the surgery.
The search for the assailant who fled on his motorcycle continues, but so far remains fruitless.

Giorgos Baslari, brother of the victim, spoke exclusively to LIVE NEWS.
“We heard about it on the radio in the morning. Now he is in good health. They knew him, he was a customer at the store. How this happened, I don’t know. But with knives for a meal?”
