A differentiated educational model for Karine Jetté

Making the learning experience more inclusive, engaging and flexible is Karine Jetté’s mission. The one who trains the Spanish teachers of tomorrow admits having completely transformed her pedagogy in the last two years.

Teaching mostly students from Spain and Latin America, she has changed her teaching model to better meet their needs. It now offers a co-modal education where everyone can take part in their lessons as they see fit. Some attend face-to-face, others follow them synchronously online and those who wish have access to deferred lessons by recording the meetings available on StudiUM. “My challenge is to ensure that everyone can take part in classes smoothly while creating, despite the distance, a sense of belonging among all participants,” says the lecturer in the Department of Literature and languages of the world.

It also allows students to choose the format of the presentation on StudiUM so that they can assimilate the material according to what suits them best. These can be video clips, podcast episodes, readings or various infographics. These options are a great way for her to adapt to the learning styles of each member of the group. The director of the department, Joyce Boro, welcomes her professor’s initiative: “Karine Jetté constantly adapts her pedagogy to respond to the changing reality and improve the effectiveness of her teaching. Its strengths in innovation in the use of technologies related to teaching-learning have been greatly highlighted during the pandemic. His new pedagogical model has been very effective in increasing student success.”

To better respond to the realities of students, it grants them additional time in submitting assignments. It also makes links with the professional reality of teachers to give a better overview of the job that awaits them. “Thanks to this more flexible model, it is now possible for me to take greater account of the diversity of my students on the physical, psychological, pedagogical and social levels. For my part, inclusive teaching allows me to innovate and confirm, session after session, the consistency of the training I give,” concludes Karine Jetté.

Karine Jetté is an exemplary teacher and appreciated by all students.
