A dispute over multimillion-dollar works of art

US police arrested billionaire Hubert Newman, 91, at his New York City home three days before his birthday, in connection with a family dispute over a multimillion-dollar art collection.

Newman has a collection of artworks by international artists from Picasso, Miro and Matisse to Warhol and Koons, which he began collecting 50 years ago with his late father, Morton. Newman was friends with some artists – including Basquiat – before they became famous, and he continued to buy up-and-coming artists, building a collection as his legacy. His daughter Belinda – and the second of his three daughters – sued him to obtain the estate following her mother’s death.
