A district without natural forest is a myth; Alappuzha has the largest Miyawaki forest in the state

Alappuzha: Alappuzha is the only district in the state without natural forest. But now the story is changing. Under the leadership of the District Social Forestry Department, efforts are being made to make the district green. In the year 2021-22, the highest number of Miyawaki schools in the state has been constructed in Alappuzha.

Forests have been created in 14 educational institutions of the district. Forests will be prepared in five more institutions soon. Although many applications are received, only those who have space are being considered. Officials say that no other district has built so many Miyawaki forests.

In this way, students can enjoy the beauty of the forest within the school-college premises. The ‘vidyavans’ will take the form of a small reserve forest within a year. The forest has been planted with five cents paid by each organization. 5,000 trees of 160 species have been planted. These include fruiting and medicinal plants.
