A family of 5 dies in the fire of a house in Roeulx night from Saturday to Sunday. Soon, the whole house was set ablaze.
Antoine, a neighbour, heard windows explode. He tried to intervene with his companion while waiting for the arrival of the firefighters. In vain. “Unfortunately, the heat was too intense on the other side of the road. The first instinct we had was to go to the neighbors and wake them up. We couldn’t get near the house despite the screams through the fire.”
My daughter heard screams
As a reminder, the five occupants of the house are all deceased. Muriel lives just behind the house that burned down last night. Difficult for her not to have been able to help them: “My daughter heard screams. At first we thought they were intruders as often happens. Afterwards, looking closely, there was smoke and flames coming out. We went out. There were already two neighbors trying to open the shutters, because apparently people couldn’t. My husband threw tools and we came through the gardens.”
In the neighborhood, this morning, the emotion is strong. With tears in her eyes, Linda tells us: “We are all in shock. The whole neighborhood is in shock. We knew them very little, because they had only been living in this house for a short time, but I must admit that we all returned. The emergency services were extremely vigilant and fast“, she concludes.
