A fire in an apartment building in Utena claimed life: a dead woman was found

As the representative of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department, Edita Zdanevičienė, told BNS, at 12:00 p.m. a report was received that a fire may have broken out in an apartment in a five-story residential building on Aukštakalnis Street.

“The fire was already extinguished by the time the firefighters arrived. According to the initial information, a woman was killed, doctors declared her dead,” E. Zdanevičienė told BNS.

Utena county police informed BNS that the burned body of a woman born in 1940 was found in the apartment.

“The exact cause of the fire is not yet known, investigations will be conducted, experts will determine what caused the fire,” police representative Violeta Ginaitienė informed BNS.

According to preliminary data, 33 people died in fires in Lithuania this year.
