A first “power-to-gas” plant opens in Switzerland

A first methanation facility, better known by its English name power-to-gas, was inaugurated in Switzerland on Friday in Dietikon, in the suburbs of Zurich. This plant, according to its designers, should enable the country to reduce its dependence on imported natural gas, particularly from Russia, by manufacturing a similar synthetic gas on site from local and renewable sources. This central must also “provide proof” that such an installation can operate on a large scale, according to a press release from its operator Limeco, a company in the Limmat valley.
