A tragic episode took place last Sunday in the town of Pontevedra, in the Merlo district of Buenos Aires. An 8-year-old girl died after accidentally shooting herself with a firearm kept in her bedroom closet by her father. The weapon had a kidnapping order since 2018. The girl’s father was arrested and accused of illegal possession of the gun and cover-up.
The aberrational event took place in a house located at 3700 Necochea Street, where the little girl lived with her father. After receiving a complaint to 911, the staff of the fifth district police station went to the place, in the western part of the province of Buenos Aires.
A relative of the girl, identified as Camilia Digiovanni, spoke with the Merlo Real portal and reported that the little girl was in her room on the second floor of the house, together with a friend, when she grabbed a weapon kept in a closet to play . She accidentally shot herself in the face of her and she died.
The girl’s father, identified as JCD, 42, testified before Dr. Walter Leguisamo, head of UFI No. 2 of the Morón Judicial Department and prosecutor in charge of the investigation. During his testimony, the man mentioned that he heard the shot and quickly went up the stairs, but upon reaching the room he found his daughter unconscious after shooting herself with a firearm. Subsequently, the experts confirmed that it was a Glock 17 brand 9-millimeter pistol.
The experts from the Scientific Police Superintendence of the Buenos Aires Police seized the pistol, which had 15 ammunition in its charger. In addition, they found a served scabbard and its respective projectile.
Judicial sources consulted by Infobae reported that JCD was arrested by the police and accused of illegal possession of the weapon and concealment, because he had an arrest warrant since October 3, 2018.
