Tehran/Vienna The Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, held out the prospect of an agreement on the nuclear deal with the USA despite all the difficulties. “Efforts to reach a good and lasting agreement continue. It is within reach if the US acts realistically and consistently,” the minister wrote on Twitter. According to Amir-Abdollahian, the individual parties cannot determine the final result; a joint effort is necessary. Iran and the United States on Thursday split at odds over reviving the 2015 nuclear deal after Tehran hinted at new obstacles and Washington said difficult issues remained.
After eleven months of negotiations, an approach to resuming the nuclear agreement, in which Germany is also involved, has recently become apparent. With the agreement, Iran committed itself to limiting its nuclear program. In 2018, under President Donald Trump, the USA unilaterally terminated the agreement and imposed new economic sanctions. Iran then began ramping up its uranium enrichment, violating the terms of the agreement.
