A good year for winter wheat

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

L’cereal workshop of the Réseau Grandes Cultures du Québec (RGCQ) unveils the results of the evaluations for wheat and fall rye. Experts evaluated 12 cultivars at sites across the province. This year, seven winter wheats and five ryes are presented in the tables. Two new wheats, Algonkin Feed Wheat and Hudson Bread Wheat, are added to the list. “Yields are very good,” says Denis Marois, head of results in winter cereals for the RGCQ.

Algonkin wheat is distinguished by a very good tolerance to Fusarium wilt. Hudson wheat has a longer than average straw. The two new ryes presented in the tables are of the hybrid type with very promising yields, including a yield that reaches more than 11t/ha over an average of three years for the SU Performer.
