His nickname is “Paris”, which is easier for the guests in his Gmunden restaurant “Meteora” than Paraskeva’s Karalis. The Greek opened his second restaurant in February and took over the traditional Eferding inn Kreuzmayr. As reported, the contract with Markus Koll only runs until the end of the year. He successfully ran the inn in the center of the district town for twelve years and stood for home-style Austrian cuisine. In the future, he will devote himself to his catering company “Kollkoch”, which was founded during the Corona period.

Several interested parties

House owner Oskar Kreuzmayr is convinced that he made the right choice when looking for a successor. “There were a few interested parties, but at the end of the day we decided on Paris. We are very happy that a Greek is now coming to Eferding.” The restaurant in Gmunden was looked at and it was running successfully. “I am convinced that it will also work in Eferding,” says the Eferding entrepreneur.

Minor renovation work will be carried out from January, everything should be finished at the beginning of February and the new Greek restaurant will open. It will also be called Meteora. “I grew up in a town near the Meteora monasteries, hence the name, I think it’s nice,” says Paraskevas Karalis in an interview with OÖNachrichten. The famous monasteries, spectacularly built on a sandstone cliff, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In Austria since 2018

Paris came to Austria in 2018 and became self-employed, supported by his family, who actively helped with the business. After the difficult Corona years, things are going really well now, he is very satisfied. Why did he choose Eferding? “The city is not far from Linz and Wels, and there are no Greeks here yet,” Paris explains his choice.

Greek hospitality is also practiced in his new restaurant. “That’s why the staff, around six in the kitchen and four in service, will come from Greece,” says the married restaurateur.
