“The construction of the storm surge barrier is unique for our country,” said Flemish Minister of Mobility and Public Works Lydia Peeters (Open Vld). “It is necessary to protect the hinterland once morest flooding.”
The structure is part of the Coastal Safety Plan which is to protect the entire Coast from severe storm surges by 2050.
