The building affected is “La Porte d’Ulysse”, it is a former office building in an interior island, behind the Basic Fit. The fire was raging on the 1st floor. The origin remains to be determined, but probably accidental. The entire platform on the 1st floor was partitioned off to form small premises and served as a day and night reception area for refugees.
a hundred people are currently to be rehoused. People can still arrive until 22:00. (usual closing time of the center). The municipality of Schaerbeek, the Region and the senior civil servant are responsible for the social aspect.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported. A security perimeter has been established by the police of zone B North (BruNo)
Three pumpers, two self-ladders, the SMUR and ambulances were deployed.
