The Ministry of Health and Population received a delegation from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to visit the General Secretariat for Health, Psychiatry and Addiction Treatment Hospitals, in cooperation with the Pempidou Group, which is concerned with combating addiction in Europe.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the visit aims to present the Egyptian model for treating adolescent addiction, and to learn about the protocol for treating adolescent addiction and the services provided to them and their families in the hospitals of the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment.
For her part, Dr. Menen Abdel-Maqsoud, Secretary General of the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, indicated that the visit lasted for 5 days, in the presence of 5 Jordanian participants working in the field of addiction control in Jordan.
Menen praised the role of the Pempidou Group in supporting addiction treatment services in Egypt, in several important projects during the past years, including the implementation of a treatment program for patients with dual diagnoses, the implementation of a community program for the care of drug users, the development of a training model for addiction treatment, and the development of a strategic plan for addiction treatment and management. Dr. Menen Abdel Maqsoud emphasized that the Ministry of Health was able to play its role and provide its services in a manner that demonstrated the importance of the mental health sector and the need to pay attention to it, as the Ministry provides all aspects of support for the development of services in this sector.
