A Jordanian peacekeeper killed and two others injured in an armed attack in Mali

The Jordanian army deplored, this Wednesday, one death and two injuries among its soldiers, in an armed attack targeting a patrol of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (Minusma).

This is what emerges from a press release from an official military source within the general command of the Jordanian armed forces, relayed by the official Jordanian news agency Petra.

According to the source: “One of the patrols of the Rapid Deployment Force Mali/2, while carrying out its duty within the peacekeeping forces operating in the country, was the subject of a armed attack”.

The same source added that the attack “resulted in the death of Sergeant Ali Jumaa Shehada Al-Jawabra and the injuries of Sergeants Suhaib Salah Qaftan Al-Zoubi and Ahmed Habis Khalif Al-Qublan”, without providing further details. details.

According to the Jordanian agency, the participation of the Jordanian Rapid Deployment Force in Mali is part of the mission of the armed forces and their participation in the international peacekeeping forces of the United Nations, in peacekeeping operations security, stability and peace, by providing humanitarian aid to affected populations in several conflict zones around the world.

Since 2012, Mali has been going through a security crisis that has still not been resolved by the deployment of foreign forces in the country.

In May 2021, the military seized power in Mali and military junta leader Assimi Goïta deposed President Bah N’Daw and his Prime Minister Mokhtar Wan and promised to hold elections in 2022.

Since last June, Goïta has become the country’s interim president and reneged on his promise to return power to civilians, after the elections which were to take place in February 2022.
