The Emirates Association for Social Development in Ras Al Khaimah organized a lecture “Pets and Mental Health”, presented by veterinarian, specialist in pet medicine and surgery, Suzan Kandil, who confirmed that raising pets has benefits for adults and children, including increased opportunities for exercise, lowering blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides. Decreased loneliness, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms.
Kandil indicated that raising pets helps people of determination provide emotional support, adapt to life and practice various activities, as well as pets such as dogs have an important role in the lives of blind people, as service dogs guide blind individuals, alert others to a person who has a seizure, and withdraw wheelchair and other useful services for a person with a physical disability.
