A makeover for a Vapeur Val-de-Travers locomotive

A review project

This Polish steam locomotive from 1952 was acquired by the association Steam Val-de-Travers in 1996.

After many years of active service at the head of our trains, the boiler is showing signs of fatigue. A new boiler was acquired in the Czech Republic in 2009.

Since then, numerous repairs have been carried out on the other organs.

Now, Steam Val-de-Travers wishes to finalize the overhaul and reassembly of this imposing steam locomotive.

Sponsorship to support a regional association

Participating in the overhaul of the Polish steam locomotive E4/4 TKP 16 Slask means:

  • support a local and intergenerational association made up entirely of volunteers
  • enhance this unique historical heritage
  • make the operation of the association’s historic steam trains viable
  • support the development of tourism in the Val-de-Travers region and more broadly in the Jura Arc
  • contribute to the realization of leisure offers and perpetuate a tourist site

Vapeur Val-de-Travers in a nutshell

L’association Steam Val-de-Travers aims to safeguard, renovate and exploit its historical heritage acquired over more than 35 years of existence.

It was in 1983, following the 100th anniversary of the regional company of Val-de-Travers (RVT), that the idea of forming an association to operate historic trains germinated in the minds of a few protagonists. Indeed, during this commemoration, various steam convoys between Fleurier, Buttes, St-Sulpice/NE and Travers were made. Under the influence of a handful of enthusiasts, the association was created. What was then just a vacant lot has become over the years a complex of three depots housing a dozen locomotives and as many wagons.

L’association Steam Val-de-Travers operates its rolling stock from May to October. Mainly in Val-de-Travers or as far as Neuchâtel or even on the Franco-Swiss belvedere line of Verrières. Special trains over longer distances are sometimes operated.

This is how several thousand visitors each year can discover the magnificent cradle of absinthe, the Jura Arc, and its many tourist sites.

Participate in this project by making a donation to the association.
