Dramatic outcome than that taken by the argument between two men at the checkout of a supermarket, as reported by Le Parisien.
The facts date back to 2020, an 86-year-old man and another 43-year-old argue at the store checkout. The old man then collapses under the eyes of all the customers and the cashiers.
The forties is indicted for “violence on a vulnerable person resulting in death without intention to give it”. He must appear before the Assize Court of Hauts-de-Seine, and risks twenty years of criminal imprisonment.
When questioned, he says that the old man was waiting between the shelves and then infiltrated the queue passing in front of him. He would have reported this behavior to him, to which the old man would have responded with “harsh words and insults as he continued on his way”. The forty-something would then have jostled him, causing the fall of the old man. He will never get up. Traumatized, the forties would also have collapsed. “He reportedly burst into tears when the victim was pronounced dead.”
The investigating judge holds that “the death seems to have been caused by a stressful situation, itself resulting from the verbal altercation and the first fall”. We do not yet know the outcome of the judgment.
