A man was murdered on Monday night in the middle of a public thoroughfare in downtown Santiago, after an unknown person shot him in the face at least twice, causing his death immediately.

The event occurred after 11:00 p.m. on Monday, in General Gana street in Santiago, when Carabineros informed the Public Ministry about the discovery of a body on public roads.

According to preliminary information, The victim -who has not been identified- received two shots in the face, without the motive behind the crime being known at the moment.

The Prosecutor’s Office ordered the work of the Homicide Brigade of the Investigative Police (PDI) to carry out the pertinent proceedings, especially the registration of witnesses and determine the identity of the victimwhich would be key to the investigation.

“No investigative hypothesis has been ruled out, since we are in an initial stage, we are collecting background information, and once the identity of the victim is known, progress can be made in clarifying the facts,” indicated Roberto Poo, deputy commissioner of the Homicide Brigade.

Along the same lines, the prosecutor in the case, Débora Quintana, explained that the priority is to determine the identity of the victim, who would presumably be a foreigner, but this still needs to be ratified.

“We are working to determine the identity, we know that the person was attacked with two ballistic impacts to the face, but the motive for this fact is unknown, as are the people involved, everything is a matter of investigation,” Quintana said.

“There is still a lack of investigative proceedings to provide more background to the investigative hypotheses,” added the persecutor.
