The researchers made several trips to the Antarctic Ocean between 2008 and 2017 in search of new species of the Promachocrinus family. Kinds of feathered starfish that you might think came out of a science fiction movie. “In total, scientists were able to identify seven new species as Promachocrinus, increasing the total number of known Antarctic feather species from one to eight“, they announced to CTV News.
According to their research, Promachocrinus can live between 65 and 1170 meters underwater and, although researchers have solved a marine mystery, there are still many unknown species to be discovered there.
