A cycle of conferences proposed by the Observatory of the Côte d’Azur in collaboration with the scientific culture delegation of the City of Nice.

The SKA Observatory: a new era for the study of the Universe “

Speaker: Marta Spinelli

Deputy astronomer of the Côte d’Azur Observatory, Lagrange laboratory (Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur – Université Côte d’Azur – CNRS)

Summary: The current theory of the evolution of the Universe is based on the existence of a “dark” form of matter which has only gravitational interactions and an unknown form of “dark” energy which is behind its accelerated expansion. Unveiling the nature of dark matter and energy is the next fundamental question in cosmology and requires mapping ever-larger volumes of the observable Universe. The SKA radio observatory and its precursors will be essential for measuring the large-scale structure of the Universe, opening a new and unique observation window that will help us unlock its secrets.
