It seems that the world is on the verge of a new health disaster, as Spain and Portugal have recorded more than forty cases of monkeypox, a rare disease in Europe.

The World Health Organization said that it wanted to cooperate with Britain to examine cases of monkeypox, which began spreading since the beginning of May, especially in the gay community.

And the local health authorities in the Madrid region announced the discovery of 23 suspected cases of monkeypox, which is originally an endemic disease in West Africa.

Monkeypox is a rare disease and symptoms usually include fever, muscle aches, swollen lymph glands, and a rash on the hands and face, according to Sky News Arabia.

And the Spanish health authorities said: “The disease is transmitted through the respiratory system, but these 23 presumed cases of infection indicate that transmission occurred through the mucous membranes during sexual relations.”

In Portugal, there are more than 20 suspected monkeypox cases in the Lisbon region, 5 of which have been confirmed.
