Today, Monday, Dr. Hossam Hosni, head of the Scientific Committee to Combat Corona at the Egyptian Ministry of Health, announced the spread of a new variant of the virus in the country.

Hosni pointed out that the mutated currently spreading in the world is the “XBB1” mutant, explaining that Egypt has received this mutated and started to show infections with that.
He added that despite the spread of this variant, it is less severe than the previous variants, and the country has not recorded an increase in the death rate or critical cases that require hospitalization and care.
Vaccines are valid
In the context, the Ministry of Health confirmed that it is ready to confront any mutants, noting that the vaccines currently available are suitable for resisting the new mutator.
For his part, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesman for the Ministry of Health, said that 3 million doses of the modified Pfizer vaccine were provided to deal effectively and safely with the Omicron variant and all Corona variants, as the first shipment with a total of one million doses arrives within two weeks, with the rest of the shipments arriving in March. next.
He added that the new mutant is considered a sub-strain of Omicron, and it can grow and transmit rapidly compared to other strains.
