A new option will open in technical education

The Ministers of Defense and Education formalized on Friday the opening in 2022-2023 of a new orientation in qualifying technical education. An option aspiring to careers in defence, prevention and security will thus emerge.

In the Technical Institute of the French Community Renée Joffroy d’Irchonwelz (Ath), Ludivine Dedonder, Minister of Defense, and Caroline Désir, Minister of Education, formalized the new training offer on Friday. From the start of the 2022-2023 school year, 13 schools in the official and free networks will open this option.

Initiated by Defense, this orientation aims to inform students of the 4th, 5th and 6th years and to prepare for three years their qualification for one of the security professions of the various project partners. These are Defence, guards, firefighters, prison officers and the police.

The ITCF Renée Joffroy school is one of the establishments that will offer this new option for the next school year. “The training will consist of general training common to secondary technical qualification education and training relating to the acquisition of skills for professional qualifications specific to the trades concerned, all supplemented by activities chosen by the school.“said Minister Caroline Désir. “With this study program, we want young potential candidates to develop their knowledge of the professions in question and also to be better informed of the challenges and opportunities. This option (…) will make it possible to train and prepare for a professional life for the benefit of the community. For some of them, it will be within a strong Defence, the multi-purpose tool of the nation, capable of responding quickly to national and international crises.“, said Ludivine Dedonder.

At the end of the success in this section, the student will obtain his upper secondary education diploma but will also have the possibility of returning to Defense having already acquired basic skills and aptitudes. The student will thus be better prepared for basic military training on the one hand as well as for the selection procedure within the framework of soldier/sailor recruitment on the other hand.
