A new scam to be very careful about

If you receive an email from the police, do not open it. The email in question contains a PDF document that can potentially infect your machine.

You may have received a curious email from the police this week with the title “Request for explanation”, with today’s date.

Said email is sober. No logo, signature or referent. Voluntarily, since the recipient of the email is invited to an attachment, a PDF document which is supposed to answer all your questions.

Several elements make it possible to identify this email as a scam, instantly. From the use of an @u-picardie.fr email address to the absence of legal information or a referent.

By clicking on the attachment, the victim exposes himself to installing, without suspecting it, malware on his computer. Other scams of the same type encourage the user to click on a link in the PDF document, or to enter confidential data which will then be used once morest him. In some rare cases, this type of request is accompanied by an invitation to pay an offense to a bank account.

As always in this case, the presence of the email in question in your spam is a good indicator of the potential scam. If you have received this email, send it as soon as possible in your trash.

If you clicked on the attachment and communicated confidential information, remember to change your access to any sites mentioned as soon as possible and notify the police of an attempted scam.
