France’s trade deficit narrowed somewhat in the first half of the year, of course. But it still amounted to 54 billion euros, once morest 89 billion in the previous half. And no trade surplus has been recorded since 2002.

In an attempt to put an end to this situation, the government announced this Thursday a plan of 125 million euros over the period 2023-2026 to help companies export, the outline of which “Les Echos” announced in June. “France must once once more become a great exporting and commercial power. France cannot resolve to chronic trade deficits”, explains to “Echos” Olivier Becht, the Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade.
