Legend in the world of pétanque, Marco Foyot is preparing to experience a new adventure near Aix-en-Provence, 50 years after his first success on La Marseillaise.

“The first time I won a tournament, I was 13 years old. All my life I have won by 13 points. And I was even born on a Sunday at 1 p.m.! » All his life, Marco Foyot was followed by the number 13. A lucky charm whose legend of pétanque continues to maintain the myth. “I’m moving, I’m heading to Aix-en-Provence”trust Marco Foyot. “For a Parisian to come and settle in 13 is not bad! »

While we could have expected him from Arlanc in the company of Philippe Suchaud and Christian Fazzino, Marco Foyot made another choice: that of an incredible project. “2024 is the year of the Olympic Games. But it is also the 50th anniversary of my first victory at the Mondial La Marseillaise. 50 years later, I returned to Bouches-du-Rhône, but this time to start a club with my friends from Aix: La Boule Aixoise”confides the 2023 European Veterans champion. « It’s a project that was done by three people, with myself, Bruno Mansio, who manages the brewery Four Court, et Fred « Sissou » Cantarell. » Bruno Mansio will be the president of the club, while Marco Foyot will be the technical advisor. “It’s a role that suits me well”smiles the six-time winner of La Marseillaise.

“In 2024, I will try to do a performance”

A friendly adventure which aims to breathe new life into the discipline, which has fallen into disuse in this town in Bouches-du-Rhône. “In the 70s and 80s, it was Aix which had the biggest pétanque clubs and therefore the greatest champions. Over the years, all this has disappeared”says Marco Foyot. “I am therefore keen to revive the dynamic of pétanque in Aix, especially since we have Parc Jourdan available, which is no small thing. We obviously want to have great players, but also great players. Once this elite part is consolidated, we will expand it with players from Bouches-du-Rhône. At the same time, we are going to develop a lot of things, the idea is to offer two to three competitions per week in the heart of Parc Jourdan. We are going to develop the pétanque school for young people, and we are also going to work with local missions on the subject. Without forgetting the veterans. »

However, Marco Foyot does not forget his ambition as a player. “ In 2024, I’m going to try to do a performance, I’ve been chasing my seventh star at the Mondial La Marseillaise for a while. I still have goals and great projects. » In addition to La Boule Aixoise, Marco Foyot also focuses on the marriage between pétanque, tourism… and gastronomy. “My wife is American. Together, we want to bring Americans who will spend 5-6 days with us and learn to play pétanque, while making a gastronomic discovery. We’re going to look for places, outside of Aix, with castles, hillsides, beautiful restaurants… my wife and I are really looking forward to launching this project. » With, as always, pétanque as a common thread.
