A 55-year-old woman lost her life on Tuesday afternoon on the beach of Coxyde, indicated the intermunicipal coastal rescue services of West Flanders (IKWV). The victim collapsed at water level for an as yet unknown reason.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, near the Ster der Zee aid station in Coxyde, the 50-year-old collapsed at water level. It is possible that she was the victim of a malaise but the investigation will have to determine it. A lifeguard stood near the victim and, assisted by another person, immediately pulled him out of the water.

Despite the rapid intervention of the emergency services, the woman did not survive. “The IKWV and the municipality of Koksijde present their condolences to the family of the victim,” they wrote in a short press release.
