The Tunisian artist, Saber Al-Rubai, became the talk of social networking sites, not only because he performed a concert in Syria after many years of absence, but also because of “questioning his patriotism.”

The owner of “I Challenge the World” sparked a great controversy in Syria for reviving an artistic concert at the Damascus Nights Festival, after critics considered it “printed” with Israel and circulated a picture of him with an Israeli officer dating back to 2016.

However, the Tunisian artist did not remain silent, but rather responded to the critics that he supports the Palestinian cause, and that the photo was taken with a Palestinian transit coordinator who introduced himself in Arabic, adding that parties used that photo for their interests.

He also held a press conference in which he expressed his happiness for his presence in Damascus after his absence, stressing that he renews the covenant with the Syrian masses, and he insisted on being there, humiliating all obstacles to meet the beloved Syrian public, according to his words.

When asked about re-publishing the photo with the Israeli officer, he answered clearly, saying: “We like to build for today and tomorrow, and we should not fish in murky waters, and I refuse to question patriotism.”

He added, “I have already clarified the circumstances of what happened… On topics that touch the depth of our first and central cause, Palestine, they deliberately use artists because they are influential.”

It is noteworthy that the evening of Saber Al-Rubai was held last Sunday in the square of the historic castle, in the presence of thousands.

Those behind him sang some of his most beautiful songs.
