A police officer had his patrol vehicle stolen on Monday morning when he stopped to provide assistance to a woman suffering from mental health issues.

Monday afternoon, the Laval Police Department admitted that it was not sure how the policeman who was patrolling solo had been able to steal his lettered patrol car in the colors of the police force.

The event occurred in the middle of the morning at the corner of boulevard des Laurentides and boulevard de la Concorde, in the Pont-Viau district.

According to our information, the police officer stopped to intervene with a woman with mental health problems.

The sequence of events remains unclear. “We are trying to find out how she managed to get on board the patrol vehicle,” said agent Stéphanie Beshara, spokesperson for the Laval police.

The suspect managed to flee in the police car for about three kilometers. She would have crossed the Viau bridge and then ended up in Montreal, where she would have abandoned the patrol car near the Henri-Bourassa metro station.

The vehicle was quickly found thanks to its geolocation system. The woman, for her part, was found and arrested near the metro station. She could possibly face charges.

The policeman who had his vehicle stolen will certainly be met by his superiors to give his version of the facts.

No one was injured during the events.
