Burkina: A private can help Sidwaya to build its new headquarters (Minister of Communication)

Ouagadougou, August 20, 2022 (AIB)- The Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism Valérie Kaboré indicated on Friday in the premises of Editions Sidwaya, that a private person can help the public daily to build its new headquarters. .

For the financing of the construction of the new headquarters of Editions Sidwaya, “we can look and see to what extent, we can encourage a private person to accompany you” by giving him the site of the current headquarters which is located at the edge of the market, proposed Friday in the premises of the public media, the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism Valérie Kaboré.

According to Ms. Kaboré, Editions Sidwaya has a space (current headquarters) that is worth gold”. “All businessmen dream of having a space at the edge of the market,” she said.

She estimated that “if there is a good assessment and if the State consents” Sidwaya can give up his current seat to a private person so that the latter gives him the equivalent of the sum which can enable him to build his new seat. .

“If we manage to demonstrate to the State that the operation is carried out at zero francs for the treasury, I am convinced that it can put the form in place to support this operation”, indicated Minister Kaboré.

The Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism Valérie Kaboré was on Friday at the premises of Editions Sidwaya to immerse herself in the working and living conditions of the agents of this public media.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the general management presented to him the concerns of the “Journal of all Burkinabè”, including the problem of financing the construction of the newspaper’s headquarters.

Another difficulty mentioned by Editions Sidwaya by the voice of the general manager Assétou Badoh/Guiré is the lack of paper linked to the international crisis.

According to Assétou Badoh/Guiré, this lack of paper, which is common to all the written press, forced its media to “cap the newspaper (daily Sidwaya) at 24 pages”, which is not without consequence.

“That is to say that we are losing media coverage, we are losing publicity in an environment where, on the contrary, we should be running to get more,” she regretted.

The paper problem has also forced Sidwaya to abandon certain newspaper printing markets, which were nevertheless bringing in money.

“The others (media) were shooting at us and that was also making money for us. Today, we cannot work for others for the same paper problem”.

Mrs. Assétou Badoh/Guiré explained that Sidwaya is obliged to ask the newspapers who want to come and shoot at his house, to bring him their papers. She also noted that the paper has experienced a rise. It went from 12,000 FCFA to 19,000 FCFA.

With regard to the paper problem, the minister undertook to introduce the general management of Editions Sidwaya to a hearing next Thursday with the general manager of the Private Press Support Fund (FAPP), who in her opinion “knows well the folder “.

Director General Assétou Badoh/Guiré also invited the Minister in charge of Communication to “bring Sidwaya’s voice to the authorities” so that the latter can put the public media “into the circuit of State markets”.

She cited in particular the case of the draws of the subjects of the Civil Service competitions which was entrusted this year to a private party.

“We cannot compete against private companies because of our status, but we have the capacity to produce,” he said.

The daily Sidwaya as a public service media, covers many activities of trade unions, politicians, associations and the administration free of charge.

“When we evaluate what we have done in terms of free in 2021, it is more than 60 million FCFA”, supported DG Assétou Badoh / Guiré.

Concerning the participation of the public daily in the execution of State contracts, Valérie Kaboré has again undertaken to introduce the management of Editions Sidwaya to the Minister in charge of the Public Service Bassolma Bazié.

During her visit, a first since her installation at the head of the Department in charge of Communication and Culture, Ms. Valérie Kaboré visited several departments of Sidwaya, in particular the general secretariat of editorial offices, the printing press and the documentation.
