Tokyu Plaza Harajuku “Harakado” will open on April 17th. Prior to the opening, Tokyu Land Corporation held a preview for the media.

Harakado is a complex facility that includes a rooftop terrace, magazine library, public bath, etc., as well as a platform for nurturing, supporting, and co-creating creators, as well as experiential media that utilizes real value. Tokyu Land Corporation calls it a “creative facility” where you can enjoy new experiential value.

It is located at the Jingumae intersection where Meiji-dori and Omotesando intersect, with Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Omokado across the intersection and Laforet Harajuku across Omotesando. There are shops and other facilities from the first basement floor to the sixth floor above ground, and there is a rooftop terrace on the seventh floor.

A town centered on a public bath on the first basement floor

On the first basement floor, there is a public bath called “Kosugiyu Harajuku” and an after-bath zone called “Chikaichi.” The floor was produced by the 91-year-old Koenji public bathhouse “Kosugiyu,” creating a “town centered around public baths.” The fee is 520 yen, which is the bathing fee set by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. In order to deliver the value of a public bath experience to as many people as possible, the business hours are different from regular public baths and are open from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Harakado’s regular store opening time is 11am.

Kosugi Yu Harajuku uses the traditional style of entering the bath through a guard stand.

Kosugiyu in Koenji has been operating without rebuilding even once since its establishment. Public bathhouses in Tokyo are often rebuilt into building-type buildings from the perspective of economic rationality, but Kosugi-yu wants to continue in the same building as when it was founded, and in 2021 it will be designated as a registered tangible cultural property. It has become.

Kosugiyu in Koenji

There are three bathtubs at Kosugiyu Harajuku, and you can enjoy the “milk bath” that is also used at Koenji’s Kosugiyu, and the “alternating hot and cold bath” where you alternate between hot and cold baths. There are nine washing areas and an indoor bathing space that can seat 2 to 3 people. The size and shape are almost the same for men and women.

Kao, Under Armor, Sapporo Beer, and Setsu Planning are participating as Chikaichi partners in the after-bath zone “Chikaichi.” They each have their own section in the town of Chikaichi, and they also hold events.

In each section, Kao will have the first purely domestic soap display, Under Armor will have a running station and stretching space, Sapporo Beer will have a beer stand, and Setsu Planning will have a place to try out Mitrex beauty and health appliances. Each section can also be used as a place to relax after taking a bath.

Dining floor with impressive greenery

There are a total of 22 restaurants on the 5th and 6th floors. On the 6th floor, which is seamlessly connected to the rooftop terrace, there is a dining space with low tables and low chairs set on artificial grass, allowing you to enjoy your meal in a different atmosphere than usual.

6th floor view

Taro Okamoto’s painting “Dream” is displayed on the wall on the 6th floor. It was created and donated by Taro Okamoto in 1961 for the founder of the long-established French confectionery Columban, with whom he had long-standing ties. After being displayed inside the Columban store, it was stored at the former Harajuku headquarters in Jingumae, Shibuya Ward. The items were donated to Shibuya Ward by former owner Yuko Harayama, and will be displayed on the 6th floor to coincide with the opening of Harakado.
