A publicity stunt for a café in Jordan…ends its owner in prison

A Jordanian citizen tried to get out of the traditional box to attract the largest number of customers, to a new café he wanted to open in the capital, Amman, but the prison was his fate.

The café, located near the University of Jordan in the capital, managed to attract customers by using a marketing ploy out of the ordinary.

Marketing trick

The marketing trick depends on throwing a banknote of the “fifty” denomination in front of the cafe for visitors and customers, which is very similar to the denomination of the fifty, but as soon as it is opened, the customer is surprised that the paper is a “20% discount coupon on the hookah and all drinks for the holder.”

While the advertisement received great interaction among Jordanians, who expressed their great admiration for the marketing idea.

It will not go unnoticed

However, it seems that the marketing ploy did not like the security services in Jordan, as the media spokesman for the Jordanian Public Security Directorate, Colonel Amer Al-Sartawi, announced today, Tuesday, that information was received about the owner of a cafe in the capital using pictures of 50-dinar banknotes in order to archyde news for the cafe and giving discounts to its customers.

He also confirmed that that person and all the documents he had had been seized, and he would be referred to the judiciary.

Expected penalty

A Jordanian legal source explained to “Al Arabiya.net” that the charge that may be assigned to the owner of the cafe is “counterfeiting, promoting and possessing banknotes”, as Jordanian law is punished with temporary labor and a fine of no less than five hundred dinars and not more than a thousand dinars. Apparently it is a banknote or part of a banknote or a paper that is similar to the banknote in any form or means, or that it was circulated, promoted, brought into the Kingdom or removed from it, knowing that it was counterfeit.

The law also punishes anyone who manufactures, uses, sells, offers for sale, or knowingly possesses paper similar to the designated paper used in the manufacture of any type of banknote or paper that may be thought of as such paper for temporary work for a period not exceeding five years.

He explained that there is a discretionary authority for the judge to rule on it if he considers that what the owner of the café has done is harmful to public money or just by .
