More than a million people (1,038,697) declared donations of at least 40 euros to charities last year in order to benefit from a tax reduction. In total, more than 350.2 million euros in donations were affected, according to figures from the FPS Finances communicated on Friday. This is a record amount.
These figures concern donations made in 2022 and mentioned in the 2023 tax declaration. People who have donated at least 40 euros to a recognized association can recover 45% of the amount in the form of a tax reduction.
For tax year 2021 (income year 2020), this tax advantage was still temporarily 60% because the government then wanted to support charitable organizations during the coronavirus crisis. Donations were then more numerous but the total amount was nevertheless slightly lower than that of the 2022 financial year.
The average amount of donations during the 2022 fiscal year was 337 euros.
