A retro-looking supercar with a V12 engine: Jowyn Wong’s vision

Jowyn Wong, the famous car designer behind the De Tomaso P72 or the Apollo Intensa Emozione, posted some images of a new supercar on his Instagram. This would be powered by a V12 engine and is inspired by legendary cars of the past.

A supercar by the designer of the De Tomaso P72

Jowyn Wong is a well-known figure in the automotive world, more specifically in the sports car category. He is indeed responsible for the design of the Apollo Intensa Emotione, but also of the De Tomaso P72.

For his next project, Jowyn clearly expresses his sources of inspiration. The legendary prototypes of Le Mans, including the Porsche 917, the Lola T80 or the Ferrari 512 S greatly influence his sketch. We clearly find a structure with a central engine, the bubble-shaped roof, the lowered and pointed nose or the rear that rises. These lines are strongly reminiscent of the racing cars of the 60s.

A complete virtual concept thanks to digital technology

Jowyn’s Instagram post discusses the possibilities of virtual reality and digital tools for designers. Using Gravity Skecth and Unreal engine, Jowyn drew the supercar. He leveraged Shapr3D for the details. According to his explanations, perfecting his sketch took him a week. A few renderings of the car’s interior, also in the retro style, have been released by the designer.

The supercar sports large headlights and large sculpted air intakes, a curvaceous grille and a carbon fiber splitter. Golden accents adorn its profile, on the side of the doors. The five-spoke rims, in the same color, contrast harmoniously with the green of the bodywork. The rear ends with four tailpipes with gold finishes. These are mounted above LED taillights. The diffuser is massive and is also made of carbon fiber.

Conclusion

Jowyn Wong’s project pays a fine tribute to the icons of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The final rendering is a very beautiful supercar. According to the designer, he would consider a V12 engine. That would go against the electrification trend, but purists will love the sound of an atmospheric V12. For Jowyn, it would be a celebration of the last decade of combustion engines.
