PLAYSTATION 5 – Since the inception of pre-orders, the PS5 is out of stock at regular online retailers. However, they have planned to put some stock back on the console’s release day in France.
[Mis à jour le 18 novembre 2020 à 16h00] The big day is approaching for the Playstation 5. If a few lucky ones have already been able to receive it by post, buyers who have already had the opportunity to pre-order it should be delivered from this Thursday, November 19. Built and launched in the midst of a pandemic, the PS5 suffers from stock issues that were perceived from pre-orders. If, at the time of this writing, the new Sony console is still out of stock, many online resellers have already explained that they plan to restock the day of its release. Be careful, however, stocks will be limited, Amazon warned. It will therefore be difficult for those in a hurry to get their hands on the machine. Below, we offer a list of resellers who have planned to offer stock this Thursday, November 19 with the scheduled time (this may however vary significantly):
- Baker at 9 a.m.
- fnac at 10 a.m.
- Cdiscount in the morning
- Amazon at 1 p.m.
Note also that the console is on sale during the confinement period. Sony has therefore adapted and will therefore not offer stock in stores. Resellers have, for the most part, announced that the console will be delivered to their homes for their customers who have ordered it online. No need to go to the store, then!
Learn more about the Playstation 5
It was mid-September that Sony officially announced the release date of the Playstation 5 during a video conference. In North America, the console will be released on November 12, whilein France and in the rest of the world, it is on November 19 that the two models of PS5 will arrive.
The Playstation 5 will come at launch in two models: a classic model with a 4K UHD bluray disc player and a model called Digital Edition without a disc player. Logically, the PS5 Digital Edition is expected at a lower price than the “classic” PS5. In fact, the Playstation 5 Digital Edition will be sold for 399 € while the Playstation 5 will be sold for 499 €, the same price as the Xbox Series X.
Mark Cerny, true architect of the next system that will equip the PS5, explained himself at length in very technical terms. As we might expect, he put a lot of emphasis on the generational leap between the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5. Also, as the leaks foreshadowed, memory and storage will be decisive in judging the power of the console. This is particularly the case of SSDs which will have the task of eliminating loading times. A weighty argument with players, on which the competitor Microsoft has largely insisted. Here is the technical sheet of the next PS5.
- GPU – 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (fréquence variable)
- CPU – 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz (fréquence variable)
- GPU Architecture – Custom RDNA 2
- RAM – 16GB GDDR6 / 256-bit
- Internal storage – 825GB SSD
- Memory Bandwidth – 448GB / s
- Input and output operations per second – 5.5GB / s (Direct), Typical 8-9GB / s (compressed)
- Additional Storage – NVMe SSD Slot
- Stockage externe – USB HDD Support
- Optical drive – 4K UHD Blu-ray Drive
Contrary to what had been suggested by various leaks, the PlayStation 5 is therefore not more powerful than the Xbox Series X. The Microsoft console is slightly more muscular in terms of its CPU (3.8 GHz against 3.5 GHz) and GPU, but overall we’re on a level playing field and the majority of games will be offered on both consoles.
Mark Cerny took the opportunity to detail an innovation that will solve a recurring problem of the current generation: the rise in temperature of consoles. From now on, it is not the temperature of the chip which will determine the frequency but the necessary activity requested by the game. An adaptation which will allow to obtain more stable performances, and a better overall optimization of the titles. Also, Ray-Tracing is of course addressed, without illustrating it by an in-game demonstration. The architect however indicated that the technology would be as well exploited and complete as what is currently done on PC. The impact on performance is “moderate” according to him. It will take several more conferences to know everything about the next PlayStation, but what emerges from the data sheet is that Sony offers a machine less powerful than its competitor, but perhaps better optimized.
On April 7, 2020, Sony surprised by revealing the new controller for the PS5. And it’s not called the Dualshock 5 but the Dualsense. For the occasion, the Playstation teams have chosen to make a slight difference with the design of its previous controllers. The button layout remains the same, although the DualShock 4’s LED Lightbar is slightly reworked with a touchpad. The marriage of two colors, white and black, has caused a lot of ink to flow since the announcement of the controller design. The traditional Triangle, Circle, Square and Cross action buttons are still present, but they are not in their usual colors.
The design of this new controller confirms many rumors that have been circulating about it for several months. The haptic feedback is confirmed. This technology makes it possible to transcribe the action into vibrations for the players. Adaptive triggers are also present, always with the aim of pushing the player’s tension to its maximum. For example, if a game asks you to shoot with a bow, the feeling of the string stretching will be better transcribed thanks to this type of trigger. Also, a microphone is directly integrated to allow players to chat with each other without needing to use a specific headset. The Share button on the PS4 is replaced by a new one called “Create”. The idea is the same, to share its content on the main distribution platforms like YouTube, Twitter or Twitch.
Once again, Sony decides to reuse its traditional design which positions the two joysticks symmetrically. If a certain part of the community has complained, the Japanese firm would like to reassure: this new controller for PS5 has been tested by thousands of people, by a wide variety of hand sizes and the ergonomics are guaranteed.
The Playstation 5 Dualsense controller has a built-in microphone that will allow you to easily chat with friends. But this mic doesn’t mean the disappearance of the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack on the controller. PlayStation Project Manager Toshimasa Aoki responded to a question on Twitter and clarified that the DualSense controller still has the same headphone jack as the DualShock 4. In other words, the vast majority of standard headsets or headphones can be paired with the DualSense controller when it is released at the same time as the PS5 later this year.
A console is nothing without its games and, for once, the Playstation 5 is launching on the market with a catalog that is enviable despite a very low number of exclusives. However, the promise of a high-end gaming experience, whether in terms of graphics or fluidity all with immensely reduced loading times, is kept. To help you see more clearly, we have concocted a selection of games to watch for the launch of the PS5 but also in the coming months. Enough to allow you to choose the video game experiences that will please you the most on the Sony console.
