“A scenario where everyone loses”

The Argentine Corn and Sorghum Association (Maizar) was one of the agricultural entities that spoke out regarding the inconveniences of importing inputs for production.

Maizar referred to the “unsustainable situation” that the chains are going through and that “directly harms all the productions of each of the links.”

The soybean (Acsoja), wheat (Argentrigo) and sunflower (Asagir) chains also spoke out.

The full statement:

The agrobioindustry, like all productive areas, requires inputs to be able to produce. The authorizations of Siras (System of Imports of the Argentine Republic), which are practically stopped, prevent the importation of fundamental raw materials. And without inputs there is no production.

This unsustainable situation directly harms all the productions of each one of the links of the productive chains, from field production to the multiple industries that transform into mass consumption products. All the food and a large part of the generation of foreign currency that the country needs so much depend on the agrobioindustry.

Sooner rather than later, this will translate into higher prices for consumers, problems sourcing locally and from export markets, and less work. In short, a scenario where everyone loses.

In view of the fact that without a short-term solution we are going towards a breakdown of the productive sector, we require the National Government to release the importation of essential inputs for all the key industries for the development of our country.
