6:58 p.m .: Washington announces another $1.1 billion in military aid for Ukraine
The Pentagon on Wednesday announced a further $1.1 billion in military aid to Ukraine, in the form of arms orders from the US defense industry.
This new aid, intended to strengthen the country’s defense in the medium and long term, includes in particular 18 Himars precision artillery systems, 150 “Humvee” armored vehicles, 150 tactical armament tractor vehicles, radars and defense systems anti-drones, the US Department of Defense said in a statement.
This is not armament intended for the Ukrainian forces currently fighting against Russian forces in the east and south of the country, but equipment which will not be delivered to kyiv for several months.
