A spectacular meteor shower tonight?

A spectacular meteor shower might be visible in North American skies overnight Monday through Tuesday.

Several astronomers consider the event might be “all or nothing”, according to NASA.

On the night of May 30-31, Earth will pass through the debris of a comet called 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann (SW3), which broke into large fragments in 1995.

This phenomenon, which bears the name of tau Herculids, might make it possible to observe 1000 shooting stars per hour, if all the conditions are met.

The best time to observe the meteor shower, if the sky is clear and it is dark, is around 1 a.m. on Tuesday on the East Coast or around 10 p.m. on Monday evening on the West Coast.
