While Drew Doughty was in jail after taking a tripping penalty, Sebastian Aho sealed the game in overtime.

The veterans were at the forefront of the hosts’ comeback. Paul Stastny got the ball rolling by jumping on a return shot, scoring his fifth goal of the season. Jordan Staal then cut the gap in half by beating Pheonix Copley with a deft deflection, then Teuvo Teravainen tied the game on the power play.

In his 1,301st game in the National Hockey League, Brent Burns opened the scoring with a quick wrist shot to the top.

The Kings had taken advantage of Frederik Andersen’s largesse between the Hurricanes’ posts to secure a three-goal lead. They only needed eight shots to hit four times in the second period. Adrian Kempe scored two of those goals, taking his tally to 22 this season. Anze Kopitar, himself the author of a goal in massive attack, was an accomplice to these two successes.

Kevin Fiala also hit the mark in the loss.

With that point in the standings, the Kings joined the Seattle Kraken and Vegas Golden Knights at the top of the Pacific Division with 63 points. The Californian formation, however, played more matches than its competitors.

Kuznetsov, executioner of the Blue Jackets

At Nationwide Arena, Evgeny Kuznetsov taunted Columbus Blue Jackets fans after playing heroes in overtime in a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals.

The Russian striker pierced Joonas Korpisalo’s armor after just 26 seconds into overtime. In celebration, he waved to fans of the worst formation on the Bettman circuit.

Trevor van Riemsdyk was the other protagonist of this victory of the “Caps”. The 31-year-old defender flashed the red light twice, helping him set a new career high with six goals in a campaign.

Garnet Hathaway was the first to blacken the score sheet, in the first period, redirecting a shot from former Montreal Canadiens Lars Eller. Hathaway is also the unsuspected pet peeve of the Blue Jackets: he has scored six goals in his last seven games against the Ohio team.

Johnny Gaudreau, Eric Robinson and Andrew Peeke got the better of Charlie Lindgren in the loss.
