A student raped on a ULB campus: a suspect arrested, parents denounce

On December 28, a young student was brutally raped on the Plaine campus of the Free University of Brussels (ULB), reveal Sudpresse and La Derniere Heure.

The Brussels public prosecutor’s office confirms that a judicial investigation into the facts is in progress and reports that a suspect has been placed under an arrest warrant by the investigating judge. “In the interest of the investigation, we will no longer communicate on this subject”the prosecutor said.

The facts took place on December 28, around 8:45 p.m., near the NO and BC buildings of the Plaine campus. According to both outlets, the 21-year-old freshman was walking down an unlit path used by many students when she was attacked and dragged into a dark area.

There, the aggressor attacked her for a long time, without the facts being noticed by a surveillance camera or the university security service. The young girl was then able to return somehow to the parental home, near the Fraiteur bridge, and collapsed there.

She was then transferred to the Care Center after Sexual Violence, but she will have to bear heavy physical and psychological consequences.

Following the facts, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office opened a judicial investigation. This led to the arrest of a suspect, who was placed under an arrest warrant by the investigating judge.

The victim’s family expresses their dissatisfaction with the attitude of the ULB which, according to them, does not do enough to guarantee the safety of its students.
